About the procedure
Laser hair removal, depending on the size of the area, can
take anywhere from five minutes to forty-five minutes. During
the treatment, you may experience a slight tingling sensation
that most patients tolerate well. Cooling the skin during
treatments may help reduce discomfort. Since laser hair removal
requires no down time, plan on returning to work and your
normal daily routine immediately. It is important that the
treated areas are shielded from the sun by a strong sun block.
What is laser hair removal?
A laser is a specific beam of light that has the ability
to permanently disable and reduce unwanted hair by permanently
damaging the follicle that produces hair.
How does laser hair removal work?
Laser hair removal technology targets pigment granules in
the hair in an effort to inactivate the hair follicle. Laser
energy is absorbed by the pigmented hair shaft and transferred
to the surrounding follicle. The heat buildup caused by the
absorption of energy by the hair itself creates follicular
damage can prevent hair productions by that follicle.
What does it feel like?
The laser treatment may feel like a mild sting for a fraction
of a second. The lasers have a built-in cooling tip that not
only helps to protect the skin but also helps to minimize
the discomfort and an optional anesthetic cream is available.
How many treatments are necessary?
It is important to understand hair growth possesses three
distinct stages of development. Typically in the active growing
stage, the hair will respond effectively. At any given time,
only one third of human hair is in this stage. For this reason,
it is necessary to treat an area at least 3 times with treatments
spaced 6 weeks apart. Most people need 5-6 treatments for
permanent results.
What will I look like after the treatment, and are there
any risks?
Your skin might get slightly red and sensitive, usually disappearing
within 24-48 hours. The hair that has been destroyed will
fall out in 1-2 weeks. Laser hair removal is FDA approved
and risk is very minimal.

Light Sheer (Diode) by Lumen, is safe and effective, and
considered the best laser to treat light skin color.
Dr. Clemens, founder of the Vein and Laser Clinic was the
first to obtain and use the Light Sheer in Virginia. Lasers
are not for everyone, and their proper use requires great
expertise. At The Vein and Laser Clinic we have that expertise.
The Cool Glide Excel by Altos is among the best to treat
darker skin types. It can also be safely used on lighter skin
types. High- power long pulse named YAG technology provides
our medical staff with the ability to treat a full range of
vascular lesions and perform permanent hair reduction on all
skin types, including tanned patients.
How is the treatment performed?
During the treatment you will feel a slight tingling sensation
as light energy is delivered through a small laser hand piece
to a targeted vein in a series of brief pulses. The light
energy is absorbed by the lining of the blood vessels and
the blood within the blood vessels, but not the surrounding
tissue. The heat absorption causes a coagulation of the blood
vessel, which is then absorbed by your body. The skin above
the area may be irritated but this generally disappears over
the next few days.
